The chilly spring temperatures were no match for the in-state and out-of-state wilderness adopters of the San Rafael Swell's Muddy Creek unit.

Recently, both the Chicago Group of the Sierra Club and their in-state Adopter Partners, Utah State University's Sierra Student Coalition Chapter, completed their yearly adopter field visits to Muddy Creek. The Chicago adopters, both young and older, spent time getting to know their area by exploring the canyons of the Behind the Reef area and Muddy Creek drainage near Tomsich Butte. The Chicago group made outstanding progress in building a relationship with the Bureau of Land Management by inviting the Price BLM Field Office's Wilderness Manager to join them during their unit visit. The Chicago Adopters received tremendous insights to the local BLM's management plans of the Muddy Creek Area, and began steps setting up next year's visit to include a service project placing Wilderness Study Area signs along Muddy Creek's WSA boundary. Way to go Chicago!

The Utah State University adopters also made an aggressive field visit to a place heavily threatened by All-Terrain Vehicles: the Behind the Reef area of Muddy Creek. The brave wilderness adopters of USU chose Easter Weekend for their unit visit-when more ATVs are present than any other time of year. They were determined to protect the wilderness characteristics of their unit by documenting any illegal impacts they encountered. Consequently, the Gods of Wilderness were with them and the ATV crowd was chased away by a freak snowstorm. However, our much tougher USU adopters stuck out the storm. Heroes!
